An Improved Open Web Joist Using Knurled Pins and a Heel Bearing Connection
Product Description
Web Joist Open Web trusses consist of structural wood top and bottom chords and tubular steel web members. The webs have machined ends, inserted into the chords, secured with knurled steel pins. The end connections bear directly on their supports. The chords are assembled using glued finger joints and are precision drilled and routed for the web connections. The steel webs are galvanized tubing with a 46,000 psi minimum yield strength. Various gauges (19, 18, 16, 14, and 13) of 1″, 1 1/8″, 1 1/4″, and 1 1/2″ diameter tubing are used, depending on the truss series and as is most appropriate for the specified loading requirements. The pins are 3/8″, 1/2″, 5/8″, or 3/4″ diameter with a patented knurled upset to assure tight joints. Steel bearing angles are used at truss supports. Accessory items such as bridging and precut blocking are also available from Web Joist.
Various Profiles Available
Web Joist trusses are available with top or bottom chord bearings, with or without cantilevers and in various profiles. The most common profiles are with the top chord and bottom chords parallel, tapered, or pitched of various depths. Other profiles may be available on request.

Engineered Designs and Shop Drawings
Each Web Joist truss is custom designed using specialized computer software to verify the web positions and material selection is most appropriate for the span, depth, on-center spacing, and all specified loads. The Web Joist engineering department will provide designs for all trusses on a project. Web Joist also furnishes shop drawings in accordance with specifications. The drawings reflect the span, loads, spacing and arrangement of the trusses required to meet the criteria of the plans. Approval of the shop drawings is required prior to fabrication.
